Presentation:

Digital revolution represents a radical change for it has brought new habits and new related-risks that everyone needs to deal with.

Digital technology has modified work processes and delivery channels. It has created a global maket which is more and more competitive with requiring standards and weakened companies.

On the same way than economical rules, pedagogical practices will have to evolve to take the digital dimension into account in the education system.

In that case, we can wonder what is the definition of Digital Technology.
It is important to understand that digital technology means to create value with digital offer, digital products and services to serve the community in every steps. That is the reason why education and training have to integrate digital technology as soon as possible.

With its significant dynamism, digital training in the Mediterranean basin can be the better vector to get rapidly the best business references.

This information doesn’t seem to be brand new in this globalizing digital world. However, the impacts of digital technology are so relevant that analysis, strategic definition and development issues will considerably affect organizational matters.

Objectives:

This workshop aims at making you discover new practices useful to build a sustainable and efficient digital strategy for training to provide employment and social development in your area.

Nabil Bayahya questions the concepts of economic value and democracies value system , based on the case of Morocco. The Internet multiplies the access to knowledge , information , and promotes the exchange of ideas , as perceptions and dogma. However it remains a space of symbolic violence and doesn’t always respect the democratic debate codes.

The case of Morocco , analyzed by Nabil BAYAHYA, Executive Partner of MAZARS ad author of « Politiques culturelles à l’âge du numérique », Ed. Descartes et Cie octobre 2015, will also learn things about ourselves.

Mediterranean economic Week
Introductory session: Digital development and business evolution in the Mediterranean

Digital technology has brought about immense changes to society, business and trade, human relationships and international relations. These developments are having major effects on both public sector organisations and private companies, not only in developed countries but also in emerging economies around the Mediterranean and sub-Saharan Africa. Dealing with change on this scale means anticipating, understanding and debating the nature of its impact, in order to ensure that new developments will benefit as many people as possible. The introductory session of Mediterranean Economic Week will be devoted to this theme, with a number experts having been invited to share their views.

"Mediterranean Economic Week aims to shine a spotlight on the positive utility of the Mediterranean Sea at a time when news coverage is focused on the refugee crisis. This issue should not be sidelined, of course, but it is also important to highlight the myriad opportunities offered by the Mediterranean region in terms of employment, development, and international cooperation," explains Philippe de Fontaine Vive, Co-President of the OCEMO. "Today, the digital sector is creating jobs on both sides of the Mediterranean. These types of major changes affect every sector. Our region is at the forefront of the digital sector, as demonstrated by the success of French Tech Aix-Marseille, The Camp, and our "smart cities" initiative. However, it is also clear that on a national level, individual European or Mediterranean countries would be unable to compete directly with digital multinationals. Therefore, cooperation between Mediterranean countries is essential in order to achieve the necessary critical mass. It is important that we combine our skills, share best practices and bring our mutual expertise to the fore. Even today, how many people know that IPhone apps being sold in the United States are designed and developed in Ramallah, right in the heart of occupied Palestinian territories? "

The level of cooperation being put into action during Mediterranean Economic Week goes well beyond the scope of previous international partnerships. "Over the last ten years, Mediterranean Economic Week has proven its role as a unifying force for the Mediterranean region. The momentum of consolidation built up over ten years of fruitful exchange and feedback has now led to a more sustained commitment to sub-Saharan Africa. The synergies that have been developed since the early days of this major international event have highlighted the importance of every Mediterranean region in the grand scheme of global trade and economic integration."

The Mediterranean Developers Network meeting

Opening session : Coproducing the Mediterranean sustainable city

Time and room:
Wednesday, 2nd november 2016
from 2:00pm to 5:00pm
> Porte-à-Faux room

Organizer: The Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations - Center for Mediterranean Integration - EPA Euroméditerranée

Presentation:

Sustainable city-making in the Mediterranean region is an increasingly complex issue, which requires technical expertise, as well dialogue, collaboration and participation with public, private and civil society actors.

At the forefront of the “engineered” city and the “agile” city, developers are key players in shaping urban spaces in the Mediterranean, and are at the core of the processes transforming project conception and implementation.
What new project management processes – including partnerships, collaborations and negotiation – are necessary to build sustainable attractive Mediterranean territories? In view of the current challenges imposed by energy and climate transition, can the sustainable Mediterranean city be low-tech? What role do experimentation and mediation play in the design and implementation of large-scale urban projects and how do they contribute to creating attractive, democratic and dynamic public spaces?

The Network of Mediterranean Sustainable Urban Developers constantly pushes public and private developers to reinvent the conduct of their work as a response to the challenges they are facing in this fast-changing world.

This year’s Conference seeks to identify the conditions and necessary tools for coproducing city planning and for building synergies between public, private and civil society actors during project design and implementation. The conference will also explore operational instruments of eco-urbanism with the aim to create energy-efficient and resilient Mediterranean urban territories and to enhance environmental and ecological transition in the region.

Open borders for Mediterranean economic cooperation in the digital age

As part of the 10th edition of the Mediterranean Economic Week, two days will be dedicated to forward thinking, business making and building sustainable cooperations

On the occasion of ANIMA Investment Network 10th anniversary in 2016, and in the context of the Mediterranean Economic Week in Marseille, ANIMA Investment Network and their partners organize on next novembre, 2nd and 3rd the EMEA (Europe – Middle East – Africa) Business Forum, targeted at business and economic decision makers of this region, on the subject of the opportunities brought by this digital revolution and the new frontiers of cooperation between Europe and Mediterranean.

Digital technology is revolutionising production, consumption, communication, and influences the planning and development of territories worldwide. In the Mediterranean, Middle East and Africa, the penetration of mobile networks and 3G/4G greatly exceeds that of the wired Internet. These markets are thus becoming pilots and experimental territories for solutions that are more difficult to penetrate in more technologically mature markets (m-commerce). At the same time, these countries need to operate for a competitiveness rise in sectors where digital can provide an answer (agriculture, energy, transport and logistics, health). It is also to digital social networks that explain partly the success of the mobilisation in the uprisings that brought regime changes in Egypt and Tunisia. In this sense, the digital must be considered as a tool for social transformation.

The programme of these two days: conferences, Inspiring Experiences on: “Africa, Gulf and Middle East, new connections in the Mediterranean”, “New digital applications: impact on economic sectors of tomorrow”, “The connectivity serving investment promotion” and Visit of ICT science parks from Aix-Marseille metropolitan area, digital start-ups pitching, Business & Investment Village and success stories.

Digital Technology, a theme with strong growth potential for economic development and the connection of our territories!

Digital technology is a rapidly growing sector, but it’s also a tool to enhance competitiveness and productivity in other business domains. Indeed, its influence is felt in other sectors which are just as diverse and innovative: maritime transport (with small-ports), energy, education, logistics, tourism and health. Information and Communication Technology are a recognised growth factor generating sustainable and inclusive social and environmental development.

Today, Marseille, its metropolitan zone, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and the Mediterranean are a “connected hub” towards Africa.

The Mediterranean Economic Week’s programme:

  • Presentation of success stories, projects, start-ups and innovative initiatives
  • A village of companies enhancing exchange between project owners, potential investors and SMBs in the digital technology domain
  • A press village, a place of exchange between contributors and journalists
  • Economic and B2B meetings
  • Conferences, expert meetings, debates around three reflection topics linked to the theme of digital technology in the Mediterranean:

-Digital technology - economic sector and service tool for other sectors
-Digital technology - an answer to current social challenges
-Marseille and the Mediterranean - Euro-African exchange hub

  • Workshops to inform, advise and exchange on experiences from major digital technology stakeholders
  • Pitch contests highlighting local Mediterranean African companies’ initiatives

Don’t hesitate to participate in this international event; find out more information now available on the Mediterranean Economic Week and the theme of this 10th edition on the website. The programme will be put on line in September as well as the possibility to sign up.

Organised by the Region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, the County of the Bouches-du-Rhône, the City of Marseille, the Public Establishment of Euromediterranean Town Planning, the Metropole of Aix-Marseille, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development and the Marseille Provence Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Office for Economic Cooperation in the Mediterranean and the East (OCEMO) is pleased to announce that, for the fifth consecutive time, it will be coordinating one of the emblematic events of Euro- Mediterranean cooperation: the 10th Mediterranean Economic Week. The point of this partner-based initiative is to promote the area and its economic stakeholders, all the while encouraging and facilitating meetings and debates with all of the economic partners of the countries from around the Mediterranean.

The theme of this year is: “Digital technology, for a connected Mediterranean”.

The event will take place from Wednesday the 2nd to Saturday the 5th of November 2016 at the Villa Méditerranée in Marseille.

Three main dimensions of this theme have already been identified:
– Digital technology, economic sector and service tool for other sectors
– Digital technology, an answer to current social challenges
– Marseille and the Mediterranean: hub of Euro-African exchange
