This year, the Mediterranean Economic Week is celebrating its 10th year and will take place in Marseille from Wednesday the 2nd to Friday the 4th of November 2016 with its central theme:
“Digital Technology: for a Connected Mediterranean”
Digital technology is a rapidly growing sector and also a tool enhancing competitiveness and productivity in other domains. It is one of the key factors in current development, an affiliate of the future, growth accelerator. Moreover, it furthers new companies being created, and many of them are young innovative entrepreneurs in the Mediterranean (startups) who have known how to make a place for themselves in the market and have developed their solutions on a regional, or even international, level.
Digital technology plays a major role in the region of Provence Alpes-Côte d'Azur and allows to demonstrate the economic interest, the potential of commercial development and the opening into European, Mediterranean and African markets, that this area, located in the centre of streams of connectivity, has to represent for foreign investors. In the future, this sector will enable us to respond to big challenges which the Mediterranean and its governments currently face - such as lowering the rate of unemployment and inequality (especially for women) and reducing poverty.
